In 1997, while serving as Vice President of Global Clinical Research at Lilly Research Laboratories and having responsibility for the Global Medical Operations of Eli Lilly and Company, Dr. Alfonso J. Alanis recognized an industry-wide issue: the lack of enrollment of significant numbers of minorities in registration clinical trials. The issue was widespread and involved large and small pharmaceutical, biotechnology companies and even academic institutions doing clinical research.
In studying the root-causes of this phenomenon, it became clear that these were numerous and complex and that they were different for different ethnic groups. However, one common thread was that minority physicians, the physicians who for the most part take care of minority patients, were absent from participating in clinical research.
For this reason, Dr. Alanis created Anaclim, a contract research organization (CRO), dedicated to the recruitment of minority investigators and minority patients in clinical trials. At this time, Anaclim is a fully operational Certified Minority Business Enterprise and ready to embark in the recruitment of minorities in clinical trials.
Anaclim is the only dedicated, minority-focused contract research organization. The company has recently been profiled in CenterWatch Weekly, and on the front page of the Indianapolis Business Journal.
Anaclim is dedicated to provide clinical trial services that exceed customer expectations. A highly experienced staff in the clinical trial development process provides investigator identification and selection, trial start-up, execution, close-out and monitoring, data management and a clean, locked database. All of these activities are closely managed by the use of project management tools that produce conformance to plan metrics and issue identification early in the process so that timelines are not compromised. A defined set of performance metrics for every study are routinely reviewed by Anaclim senior management, as well as externally, as defined by the customer.
