BASi was founded in 1974 as a specialized instrument company supporting academic scientists with a strong focus on neuroscience and analytical chemistry. Over the years, BASi became increasingly involved in understanding how potential new drugs interact in mammalian species, from mice to humans. As outsourcing became a viable option for pharmaceutical companies, BASi became increasingly more a service firm than a manufacturer. Today, 75% of sales are from contract research services and 25% from products, and BASi is a preferred provider to several major pharmaceutical companies. The company has therapeutic area concentrations in central nervous system diseases, diabetes, antibiotics and antiviral compounds.
Currently BASi has a skilled staff of over 300 people. The company is headquartered in West Lafayette, Indiana and has laboratories in Mount Vernon, Indiana; McMinnville, Oregon; and in the United Kingdom.
