CurXceL is located in the Purdue Research Park in West Lafayette, Indiana. Formed in October 2000 and incorporated in March 2001, CurXceL is a seed-stage biotechnology company planning to engage in the discovery and development of novel therapeutic drugs intended to treat neurodegenerative diseases and conditions. The company's researchers have experience in isolating and identifying drug candidate compounds and plan to create a portfolio of patents. The contenders will then be out-licensed to intellectual property licensing companies, developed collaboratively, or handled by CurXcel themselves through clinical development.
CurXceL Corp. seeks to remedy the most common cause of progressive cognitive dysfunction, Alzheimer's Disease, which presently has no cure. Current drugs offer only modest benefits in slowing progression of the disease, even when diagnosed early. Using proprietary processing methods, CurXceL will pursue natural product drug discovery to identify compounds from medicinal plants that do more than alleviate symptoms and slow progression. The company seeks compounds that will protect and regenerate neurons that Alzheimer's Disease destroys. They will evaluate plant extracts as potential drug candidates via high throughput screening methods, and will further develop them using combinatorial chemistry.
